Borneo - Wildlife

Orang-Utans - Once present in the jungles from southern China to Java Orang-utans are now only found in the rapidly diminishing forests of Borneo and Sumatra. Living as solitary creatures in the canopy of the forest these primates are remarkably human like in appearance and mischievous in their ways; sadly, experts expect them to be extinct from their natural habitats in the next ten or twenty years. Clients have the opportunity to visit these remarkable primates in the wild on their Borneo holiday through some hard tracking through the forest or alternatively at one of the Orang-utan sanctuaries of Sepilok or Tanjung Puting, the traveller should not miss this opportunity to contribute to the survival of one of the Great Apes. Please contact us for further details.

Proboscis Monkey - Shy and difficult to observe these bizarre creatures are definitely worth the effort to visit on your Borneo wildlife holiday. Usually visible during river trips as they forage for leaves and shoots in the trees one is at first alerted to their presence by the remarkable goose like honking noise that they make. Groups of proboscis monkeys are usually dominated by a single male which is identified by his enormous red nose; strangely for an animal that only eats leaves, these primates also swim, courtesy of their webbed feet!

Pygmy Elephant - So little is known about the Borneo pygmy elephant that it's not even known how many there are. Approximate estimates number them at around 1,000 - 1,500, but no more than that.
What is known is that Borneo elephants are less aggressive and smaller than other Asian elephants, with males growing perhaps only as tall as 2.5m. With a characteristic rotundness, larger ears and longer tails, even adult pygmy elephants look like juveniles. If you would like the opportunity to spot these fascinating creatures in the wild please contact us for further details. Some of the best destinations include the stunning Danum Valley and along the banks of the fast flowing Kinabatangan River...

Islands and Beaches/Diving - "I have seen other places like Sipadan, 45 years ago, but now no more. Now we have found again an untouched piece of art.a jewel" - Jacques Cousteau.
The underwater realm and bio-diversity of southern Asia is hard to beat. Renowned for such endangered species as green and hawksbill turtles, napoleon wrasse, numerous species of shark and schools of thousands of barracuda, this hotspot is also known for its "muck diving" with such rarities as mimic octopus, flamboyant cuttlefish and ghost pipefish. Combining this with relaxing on the pristine beaches of Mabul or the water village style resort of Kapalai island is hard to beat! Fantastic pristine beach getaways for the end of your Borneo holiday include Lankayan Island and Mataking.
With a variety of different dive locations and pristine beaches surrounding Borneo it is impossible for us to list them all, so if your choice is not listed then please contact us for further details.
